Who we are

About Recycle.gi

Recycle.gi has been helping Gibraltar recycle, recover and responsibly manage waste for more than a decade. Our mission is simple: reduce landfill dependency, maximise resource recovery, and support a cleaner, more sustainable Gibraltar.

In December 2013, Recycle.gi became part of Environment & Waste Management Services Ltd (EWMS), bringing together recycling expertise and environmental services under one organisation. This milestone enabled the company to expand its operations, improve collection services, and increase its contribution to Gibraltar's environmental objectives.

A new chapter began in 2024 when EWMS was acquired by El Martillo Ltd, a Gibraltar-based group committed to long-term investment and sustainable business growth. The acquisition strengthened the resources available to Recycle.gi and laid the foundations for a significant programme of investment in Gibraltar's recycling and waste management infrastructure.

Since joining the El Martillo Group, Recycle.gi has invested heavily in expanding and modernising its operations. This includes the introduction of new low-emission machinery, enhanced collection and handling equipment, advanced waste sorting technology, and increased processing capabilities for recyclable materials.

Among the most significant additions has been the installation of a high-capacity baling system capable of processing substantial volumes of cardboard and plastic materials each month. This investment has improved efficiency, increased material recovery rates, and strengthened Gibraltar's ability to divert recyclable waste away from landfill.

The company has also expanded its recycling streams and processing capabilities across a range of materials including plastics, cardboard, paper, metals, batteries, electronic waste, fluorescent tubes, printer cartridges and confidential documentation, helping businesses and residents recycle more effectively than ever before.

In 2025, Recycle.gi was selected to deliver Gibraltar's new Waste Management Facility, a landmark project that will introduce advanced sorting, material recovery and waste-to-energy capabilities. The facility represents one of the most important environmental infrastructure projects undertaken in Gibraltar and will play a central role in the territory's long-term sustainability strategy.

In July 2026, Recycle.gi reached another major milestone with the commissioning of its Biodiesel Processing Plant. The facility converts used cooking oils into renewable fuel, transforming waste into a valuable resource while supporting Gibraltar's transition towards cleaner and more sustainable energy solutions.

Today, Recycle.gi continues to invest in new technologies, infrastructure and environmental solutions. Backed by EWMS and the El Martillo Group, we remain committed to building a circular economy for Gibraltar by recovering more resources, reducing waste and creating a cleaner future for generations to come.
